Hi I picked up my shiney new mazda 2 sport on friday.
I have one question I know the fuel consumption will be high for the first few thousand miles but I wasnt expecting to be only getting 28 mpg is this normal or do we have a problem?

M2 sport deffinately the best choice!! I have had my m2 sport for 2 months now and have done 1700 miles and i am averaging 40.3 mpg and have been since i picked it up. i do mainly town driving with a 5 mile stretch of fast road to work every day.  I would think if you are only getting that kind of mileage you either have a problem or you must have a very heavy right foot???  Wink

no heavy foot it's only done 70 miles so treating her very nicely at the moment till she's run in.
i've got to go up to york at the weekend bout 300 mile round trip so we will see if it improves after that.

It's got to go back to the dealer anyway because they delivered it with a scuffed alloy scratched dashboard and scratched door lining not impressed at all even more so when the dealer says we will see what we can do to repair the damage.

Welcome Smiley

For the first few hundred miles you'll find that the consumption will go up and down.

I brought my 1.5 Sport back in March last year. Mine was returning between 36 to 40 mpg. I found that after around 5k the engine was properly worn in and it was returning on average 45mpg.

The key is to vary your speed and revs as your driving Smiley

Hope you enjoy your new Zoom Zoom  Grin

had my 09 1.4 ts2 for 8 months now from new and put 7000 miles on the clock travelling to work and back, well pleased with the mpg.most of my driving is motorway and dual carriageway.did 464 miles this week when the empty icon started flashing and it took 32.4 litres to fill back up, it worked out about 64.4mpg.
i wanted to see how much further i could have gone but bottled it not knowing how much fuel was left but looking at what i put in and what it says in manual there should be about 10 litres left which should take a tank range to 560 ish miles.
any other owners getting near this?

well i've not long got back from york and the mpg has now gone up to 36.6mpg  so it's getting better and I could see it it going up as the miles ticked over so I must of just had a very tight engine
