I have a new Mazda2, and from day one there has been a very annoying rattle on the passenger side. The noise is actually more like a vibration or the twang of springing metal, sounds like it is coming from inside the dashboard on the passenger side. It happens every time I drive over a e.g. a man-hole or a bump in the road, particularly at low speeds (say under 30mph). The Mazda dealer has worked on it about 5 times and cannot fix it. Any ideas anybody?

Sounds like I've got the exact same problem as you. I thought I'd mention it at my next service.

Hi guys,

I have been getting the same noise to. You can hear it every so often , but sometimes giving the dashboard a good slam closing helps.

I don't think it has anything to do with visor clips or giving the dash a good slam - the spring-like vibrating noise comes from the engine as far as I can tell, on the passenger side.

I had this problem too but the sound was coming from the glovebox so I took it in to the dealer and told them that the glovebox was rattling. Got it fixed and was told that apparently one of the screws were loose.

How  I love the web.... we have the same problem, so I took everything out of the glovebox (sat nav, cables for sat nav and owners manual) and it did not make a lot of difference.  I will mention it when we have a service (if i can bear ir that long)

It seems to me that this problem is more widespread than I thought. Here is a link to an Australian Mazda forum which explains the exact same problem:

Surely some experienced Mazda mechanic/expert must have come across this problem? Huh?

And if it's just a screw, why would it come loose, not be fixed correctly when sold?
