Picked up my new M2 on Monday. Looks good (Met Grey Tamura) but I have a problem with the reverse gear. This morning I spent 2 - 3 mins (fortunately in the works car park depressing the clutch, changing gears and trying to engage reverse.
I have it booked in at the garage tomorrow morning as I think this is a  H & S issue.
It was already booked in for a new bonnet & bumper due to stone chips (on a new car ?).
Moving from Honda, I am now wondering if I have done the right thing Huh???
Anyone else had similar problems ?

Sometimes it happens to me too. Maybe it's from a protection in order not to put reverse accidentally :/

Most cars take a fraction longer to get into reverse than engaging forward gears, but 2-3 minutes is a little too long!!! It may be that as it's a new car it is trickier still as things haven't 'loosened' up yet and the gears are still 'tight', but saying that mines been fine since new.......or no worse than previous cars.

Any joy after the visit to the garage sjh21?

Some good news. The bumper & bonnet have been replaced & re treated. No complaints there, they look excellent.
On meeting the engineer, he, as anticipated, said there did not seem to be a problem as he & the sales guy had tried and had no problems. I asked if he had 5 minutes to have a 200 yd trip across the road. Across we went and pulled up & tried to engage reverse. Although I must admit I expected the worst (for it to engage) it did not. He tried with no success. He then drove it for 5 minutes & periodically stopped & tried. He had about a 10% success rate. We returned across the road to report back.
Result is that I have a M3 to drive until my car is fully fixed "to my satisfaction" ( I only want a car that has 6 usable rears in total).
The jury is out on the Mazda vs Honda question but I really hope this is sorted as, to date (only 5 days I know), it is a good car to drive.

mine did it too, but it disappeared after 15000km's, what usaully worked was to disengage the clutch, engage it again and then try reverse gear.

Latest news, the dealer has now tried to adjust the clutch but no change. Gearbox is out & he has contacted Mazda to supply a new one.
Not a good start....

I've had this problem with a fiesta. Turned out to be the clutch "hanging up" - which in basic terms means that the clutch wasn't completely disengaging - and since there is no synchromesh on reverse it made selecting reverse gear very difficult or it would crunch as it went into gear.

Hope your 2 is sorted soon and back on the road. Cheesy

This is getting like a soap....
Three calls today;
i) Mazda have given authority for a new box to be fitted
ii) Mazda have said the gearbox will be here early next week. Was this OK ? No it is not as I will be without new new car for another week. They then offered to take a box from another car (with Mazda's OK). Was this OK ? It is better....
iii) Mazda have now said the box will be with the dealer tomorrow (Thursday) & so I should have my car back by Saturday.

The story continues....

Here is the latest.
A new gearbox was fitted but on the way home I heard a metallic bang & thought I saw something bounce across the motorway.
I rang the dealer and was told that providing all seemed OK not to worry.
Took it on a decent run yesterday & all appeared OK. Tonight when I got home I could smell burning. I checked under the bonnet & then under the car and I have an oil leak....... This has sprayed all the underside of he car and is obviously being heated by the warm engine. I rang the dealer & of course everyone has gone home. I have asked that someone rings me first thing tomorrow.
A nightmare start to Mazda ownership. Present score Honda 5 Mazda 2.
