Hi
We have ordered a new Mazda 2 1.5 sports and expect to take possession this week. We shall hand over our Mazda 3 TS (2004) in part exchange. It has almost ten months left on the tax disc, are we entitled to retain this and claim a refund from DVLA or do we have to hand over the tax disc to the dealer when they take the car in exchange?

Many Thanks

Johnny

It is certainly your right retain the disc and get a refund, but the dealer might well knock money off the trade-in to re-tax it.

If I was you I'd take the tax disc at the last moment before you handover your car, but don't tell the salesman.  Don't make it blatantly obvious though.
If they don't ask, they don't get. So if you don't hear from the salesman about it in a week or so, then send it back to DVLA for a refund on the remaining complete months.
If you leave your tax disc, the salesman would claim the refund for themselves anyway.
Car Salesmen are the scum of the Earth!!!!!!

I asked my dealer before trading in my old car and they told me to keep the tax so i could claim back Smiley
Nothing changed price wise so you should definetly keep it Smiley

Got the Mazda....everything is fantastic. With regard to the tax, a dealer is not allowed to claim a refund on your tax disc, nor can they value the car with tax inclusive, they can only pass the tax onto the new owner. We took our Tax Disc and were surprised the dealer gave us all that information. So not all dealers are bad it would seem. It does state all this info on the tax refund form so the guy was legit.

Many Thanks for all your replies

Johnny

ps She won't let me drive the car yet, but will let you know my driving experience when it happens
