I have today delivered a letter to my dealer formally rejecting my 2 month old m2 sport with 1700 miles on the clock. The reasons are as follows:
faulty alarm system that goes off when I lock the car it's been into the dealer at least 7 times for them to fix which they still haven't managed (I've told them that it'll be the control unit but they will not listen to me) Mazda UK's technical department know about the fault but cannot rectify it at the moment as they don't know what is wrong with it!!!!!!!
Extremely poor fuel consumption the average is 20-30 mpg the most we have ever had is 35.5 mpg and that was on a 300 mile round trip on the motorway It's been in at least 3 times and they insist there is nothing wrong with it even though the computer was showing 24.3 mpg average when they gave it me back after they had it for 6 days.
There is a hollow sounding knock from the rear of the car when going over large bumps or pot holes again been in at least 3 times first 2 times there was nothing wrong with it the third time they replaced a shock absorber but they still haven't fixed it.
I've requested a replacement car and made it quite clear that I don't want a refund I want the fault free car that I paid for. I have the finance company and consumer direct on my side so hopefully they will just replace the car without any hassle. The salesman did say that they had to replace a fiat last week that was having similar problems so fingers crossed.

Good luck hope you get it changed - nothing worse that going back and forth to dealers and they won't listen. - Quick enough to grab your money though.
Did you do a full tank to full tank mileage check - don't rely on the on board computer.

yeah I did a full tank to full tank and it worked out at 27.77 mpg so the the on board computer isn't that far out. I know they are only an indication of fuel consumption but I really don't think that it would be 10-20 mpg out (what the dealer is suggesting) else what is the point of it and why would mazda bother to put it in the car if they were that inaccurate. Yeah they are quick to grab your money but not so keen on putting major problems right.

Andy
Is the tail pipe black and sooty - sounds like it's running very rich -- ours is as clean as day we bought it.
That's nearly as bad as my petrol guzzler at 22/24.

Pleased to see you have taken this step.
I have been very disappointed by Mazda's (or just Mazda UK's) lack of reaction to ongoing and new issues that have been posted on this forum. As you have said before, the alarm fault had been around for sometime before you bought your car but nothing has been sorted by the manufacturer, so the dealer doesn't really stand a chance! In my case I reported the clutch pedal click in Aug 08 and I believe a bulletin has only recently been issued to acknowledge the problem, but it says no more than that.
At least your dealer has previous experience of someone rejecting a car (my dealer also does Fiat as well strangely enough). Good luck with it.

where about in the world are you si I'm in birmingham. What also prompted this action was the dealers exceptionally poor customer service and excuse making a few examples are:
we booked the car in to have a seat trim that was broken replaced after they stated it needed parts so we turned up at the dealer on the day it was booked in for to find they hadn't even ordered the parts they told us that we hadn't told them that the seat trim was broken
we were given a courtesy car that ran out of petrol 2 miles up the road it also wouldn't go in to second gear and only started when it felt like it we had that for 6 days at our expense i.e. we had to pay to insure it as a temporary additional car on our policy.
booked courtesy car phoned 2 days before to get the details of the car so we could insure it. turned up on agreed day to find they didn't have that car so we had to pay to insure another car so we had 2 of their cars insured on our policy
I could go on it is quite a list lol.

DSPUK no the tail pipe is not black and sooty but I clean it when I wash the car but it does smell rich at times it also lacks power for example overtaking on the motorway 50-70 mph can take awhile to get there compared to when the car was just out the box lol.
I suspect that this car has had engine issues since day 1 as when we first had it would only do 28 mpg on the motorway but I just thought it was because the engine was tight but 1700 miles later it has not really improved it goes up and down but the best we have ever had is 35.5mpg on the m1 in very long 50 mph zone.

I'm in Hampshire, so not the same dealer. As I posted before, I have few compalints with our dealer. Theonly delays we have experienced is with Mazda supplying the parts and then for a courtesy car to be available. In our case the dealer charges £10 as an excess waiver for the courtesy car (so no charge if you want the "risk" of the excess) and you just replace the petrol you have used. To date we have spent around £30 on that side of things.
I have been without my car for about 7 or 8 days for warranty work in the 2 years, that is pretty disappointing. I cannot see me buying another Mazda but it is still the only car out there that I want! I am very wary of keeping beyond the warranty period though.

Yeah I was told By Mazda UK that I should be offered waiver insurance etc but my dealer insists you fully insure their car on your policy my insurance company expressed their concerns about this as they found it highly unusual but the dealership insisted it was their policy.
The list of faults with the car and cock ups made by the dealer is along one (admittedly they have now fixed some minor problems). We have just reached the point where enough is enough if it was just 1 fault that mazda were working on we would accept that and wait for the fix but it is numerous faults and numerous cock ups and we have no faith in the dealership actually finding what is wrong with the car. They have now damaged the car twice whilst in their care the first time it was handed over to us damaged the second time they scratched the bonnet in numerous places waiting to see what they say about that not that it makes much difference now we have rejected it.
Cant wait to see what they say tomorrow when the sales manager gets that letter will be interesting to see what bull s**t they come up with as to why I cant reject the car.

Hope the information in the links I posted on the other thread will help you if there are problems. I guess that if it goes as you want you will have to accept a replacement from them, hopefully there is another dealer at a resasonable distance that you can use for servicing. The independent I used for servicing my Corsa insisted you insure the car yourself, so I never took one from them. There are companies that offer short term isnurance so if the need arises again you could check that out rather than faff around with your own policy. Good luck for tomorrow

I meant you'll have to accept a replacement from them as in the dealer. Then look to another one for servicing.

Well the dealer has phoned me today and blatantly tried to blackmail me Last thursday and friday mazda technical had no fix for this alarm fault. Today mazda UK have found the fault fixed it and produced a part and have one in the country with 7 people on the list for this part Mazda UK are willing to forget the other people who may have been waiting for months for this part to repair my car in order for us to stop the rejection claim or we will have to wait for more parts and who knows how long that will be with the way the airports are I think the list would be much larger than that with the amount of people on here alone who are suffering this fault. As I pointed out them that wont fix the other faults and told them that i wont be blackmailed to half fix the car and it remains rejected. I really can not believe that they fixed this problem and produced 1 part over the weekend and got it into the country, this is just a stalling tactic I feel.

Had another phone call today Mazda are sending the part ahead of the now 50 people waiting for this part regardless and they will send a Mazda engineer at a later date to check the car for the rest of the faults even though we have rejected the car . Mazda UK are refusing to replace the car because a replacement car could suffer from the same faults!!!!! Thats sounds like an admission that they know they are selling defective cars. I called consumer direct who have been advising me regarding this matter to inform them of the comment made by Mazda UK and they are now referring the matter to trading standards as they have taken the same view about the comment. I have also put a major complaint in with Mazda Uk customer services manager as I find comments like that completely inappropriate.
