Mazda2 Sport 1.6

« on: May 06, 2010, 07:58:34 pm »

I have a Mazda 2 Sport 1.6 diesel and just as I approached home this evening a warning light came on showing a spanner and oil can. I assumed that this indicated that a service was due. The car was serviced last week so thought that it hadn't been reset. However when I checked in the handbook it is a warning for fuel in the engine oil. Sad
Of course the service departments were closed by this time so no help there until the morning.
In the meantime does anyone know what the implications of this are and can I still drive the car?
Thanks for any advice!

Number 1 - check you have oil in the car.

If no oil, don't drive it anywhere. I have known instances where people have had their cars serviced and the muppets in the service dept have forgotten to put any oil in!  Shocked

Next, call the dealership ASAP and ask to speak to the service manager and explain your findings - warning light, and oil / no oil.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply Smthers.
Yep there is plenty of oil in the engine.
I rang the garage this morning and it seems to be something they haven't come across before  Undecided
The car is going in to them tomorrow anyway for a new wiper switch so they will "plug it in" to the diagnostic while it is there and see if it throws out any faults.
I will report back on the outcome.

Seems that this warning light is only found on the 1.6 Diesel and as my car is the first 1.6 Sport they have serviced they haven't come across this particular light before.

Anyway nothing showed up on the diagnostic and the light has now been reset and the car seems to be going OK,  so I hope it was just a passing glitch.

Because of the warning light showing I drove very carefully on the 35mile trip to the garage ,keeping to 60-65MPH on the motorway and was impressed that the on board computer showed 88 MPG average!! Shocked
I know the display is optimistic so the real life figure will be about 80MPG which is still impressive. The 90 miles for the day showed an average display of 78MPG.
