Hi,

Just bought a mazda 2 sport and love it, except the engine coolant light comes on when u start up, but insted of going away quickly it stays for about 5mins. Dealer said thats normal and not to worry as lots of other people have had this problem, but has anyone else had this problem and should i worry?

Thanks for the help and advice in advance

Is it the blue key? If so its normal, it goes away when the engine fluids are at optimum temp, even on warm days if the car been sat for most of the day it takes a few mins to go away.

HI, when it has gone out the water temp is at the correct temp, if it comes on red then it is overheating..

Thanks for the help!

The manual states that it should be on for a second or two and then go off, not that it should be on for a couple of minutes before going off!

yea but a second is obv a lie, ur engine dont superheat the fluids instantly, ive noticed on mine that on a cold start the revs stay at around 1500 for about 10-15 seconds before dropping, i gather this is just the auto choke?Huh??

Revving at 1500rpm for ~20 secs is normal on the mazda 2 and manual suggests it but it also states  that in countries like Germany you should start and go and skip this step (it must be due to regulations there I guess for standing still with the engine on). I prefer to leave it for 20 secs thought.

Hi, that all depends upon the ambient temp and the way the car is being driven. Also the engine takes much longer to warm up if it is just idling...

I have a OBDII scanner to monitor my car while I drive.
This light stays on until coolant reach temperature of 55 deg celcius!
