Ok peoples, as most of you know the baby mazda's got a rather big competitor coming out soon in the shape of the new fiesta with which it shares more than just a parent company so what are peoples thoughts on it?

Obviously despite being nearly a year behind the 2 there will no doubt be a fair few more on the road in a very short time but does it really move things on?

Would you have bought one if it had come out first?

Could i be going slightly mad and having a conversation with myself? yes..probably? who said that....?

Try not to be too mazda fanboy/girlish people...

I would of easily chosen the Mazda everytime. I go for uniqueness & the fact there is less on the road makes it alot more appealing to me. I think its only a matter of a month or so until the new fiesta is started to be seen regularly all around & it will soon bore us just like the KA shape & previous fiesta shape.

I'm really not a fan of the interior. And the front just looks wrong, especially on that pimped-out red one.

I like the saloon version though - looks like a tiny 6.

Hi All,

Before buying my Mazda 2 Sport all my previous cars were Fiesta's, i used to swear by them. My last Fiesta i bought was from new and i had nothing but trouble with it so after a year i decided to cut my losses, sold it and bought my New Mazda 2 Sport. Due to the poor build quality of the car and appalling Ford customer service i received i swore never again to buy another Ford.

Although probably biased i think the Mazda looks a much sexier, better designed, and well made car than the Fiesta, the only thing that will let it down against the new Fiesta is that the Mazda 2 only has 3 different specs while the Fiesta has a lot more but as they say it is quality rather than quantity that makes all the difference and that i can assure you!

I have never known anyone with a ford who didn't have trouble with it.  If I hear a car which doesn't start first go...chances are it's a ford!  Mazda wins hands down  Smiley

Im in agreement with many of you guys and gals. I sat in one at the british motor show and was surprised at how small it felt. That dash really 'comes out' at you. Theres alot of different materials in there too which is made it seem a bit cheaper than i guess they were going for. The funny little quaterlights at the front of the windows were offputiing also, i don't really see what purpose they serve?

Hi, no doubt the ride quality and handling will be streets ahead of the Mazda, and no doubt it will be more reliable than a BMW, Audi, Merc and Volkswagon, I had a 15 year old Ford and it never once let me down. But could I live with that dash, possibly not, however it will vastly better plastic than the mazda and the car will be painted properly...

I also owned a Fiesta and it actually gave me trouble from day one (no joke) and for that reason I will never buy a Ford again.  Cry  Angry

Do you guys & girls really think the New Fiesta is going to be so much better ?  Huh?

The plus on the Mazda side is that it is the world car of the year and a title like that means a lot.  Cool

The Mazda 2 has the bragging rights and it is more exclusive.  Cool

I think you will really only be able to tell the difference once you have been able to drive the New Fiesta.

give it 6 months and theyll be everywhere. which will result in big depreciation. not so the 2. also the 2 has a jap built chain driven engine. doubt the fiesta has that.

just checked the review of the mazda 2 on the motortorque.askaprice.com from the fiesta link above and I came up with this huge mistake!!!
"Solidly built and Ford engines will be reliable. Just don't expect leather."
Check the  review yourself and look at the quality part!!

Stuff like this really annoys me. Who edits these website for goodness sake?

It's like the car data section in the back of Top Gear magazine show the 2 as having a 4 star ncap rating!

Saw that one too long ago and read about that software update needed for the airbags and it was one of the first articles I had read about the 2! I got confused but ok since everywhere else has 5 stars...

I am gonna be honest, I quite like that car, but I would still have the two because of a few things:

1) higher resale value after 3 years (thats just Mazda's reputation)
2) Uncommon car
3) Funky design with lovely colour

I can agree that the fiasta will fill our roads like it usually does...
