Removing tar specs from paintwork!!

Hi All,

Does anyone know a good product to use in order to remove tar specs from paintwork? People have recommended using petrol, but I’m a bit wary of what to use in case i invalid the warranty. I was going to give Mazda a call but i thought i would ask you guys on here first.

Also has anyone purchased dimondbrite and it is worth getting?

Tardis is a good tar remover, you can buy it from alot of on-line retailers. Most Manufacturers do their own cleaning products so call Mazda and see what they say. I have used BMW Tar remover which is very good IMHO, spray on and leave to soak for 2 minutes, the tar will start to run down the paintwork, then gently wipe off with a microfibre cloth so no rubbing.

I use AutoGlym Intensive tar remover...

Very good and works a treat and doesnt break the bank

I use detailing clay with a light spray wax (as a lube) to clean off any imperfections on the bodywork. Works with Tar.

On another note - to stop tar build up, wash your car more often

There is a lot of tar on cars at the moment due to snow/ice damaging most road surfaces. As a detailer I am using Tar & Glue remover on a daily basis at the moment - the Autoglym tar remover works well - as does margarine funnily enough.
Clay ber is a bit expensive to waste on just removing tar IMO but come the spring a good going over with a clay bar is certainly worthwhile.
A good protective wax will also make tar and other contaminents easier to remove when washing.

It's worth noting on this topic that if, like me, you have the Diamonbrite coating on your car, then they told me to NOT use any products to remove the Tar. I had bought the AutGlym stuff. I was told to use only the Diamonbrite conserver.

So be warned. Here's the email reply I got.

Dear Sir,
Please do not use any polish, wax or white sprit product on the Diamondbrite.
Try using the conserver neat, leaving on for about 15 minutes and then polish off.  You may need to do this twice.
This should remove the tar markings.

Hi Guys and Girls,

You all seem very keen to spend money on "tar removal" products.

Save yourself a fortune and just use KEROSENE.

It's obviously petroleum based with a quanity of oil in it ... it won't hurt your paint or plastic.

DIRECTIONS:
(a) Use a plastic spray bottle and spray it on the affects area ... and let it sit for 5 minutes

(b) Use a soft cloth dipped in kerosene and gently wipe the area ... don't rub too hard as the tar may have stone chips inside

(c) Repeat Step A until tar removed
