Hi everyone,
Nice little forum, I hope it picks up loads more members.
I thought I'd share some feedback after owning it for 3 weeks. The car is a Mazda2 TS2 1.3 Petrol(black).
After refueling it three times and measuring the miles done I have noticed that it does pretty much exactly 35 miles to the gallon. The majority of the travel I do is between work and home which is basically 5 minutes of small roads from cold (and waiting at traffic lights) then another 3 minutes on the Coast Road in Newcastle doing 50-70 mph then another 5-10 minutes through small roads, roundabouts and traffic lights. I've been running it quite normal, a bit on the sensitive side, escecially since I noticed the consumption was so high. By comparisson my former Fiat punto 8v 1.2 litre did 37mpg. I was hoping this car would do better than that.
Official fuel consumption figures are:
Urban 40.9 Extra urban 61.4 Combined 52.3
So, doing this fairly urban route (with some higher speeds) it's giving me 35mpg. I was hoping for a lot better fuel economy to be honest. I've done 450 miles or so in total.
1. Is this what I can expect in winter times? 2. Does the consumption go down the more miles I do (running in enginge etc)? 3. If running in the engine is the issue here, at what mileage can I expect to see a better consumption? 4. Would it be silly of me to expect it do be in the 40s compared to 35?
No one might be able to actually answer this but I thought I'd share my thoughts. I dropped it off today at the Mazda dealership to have it looked at. I dont know, maybe that was silly especially judging by the pretty crap impression I got of the service department at Hodgons in Newcastle. Evil eyes whatnot from service people.
Apart from the fuel consumption is a pretty good car. It does alright in city traffic and handled nice doing 90 mph on the A1. I already got a few scratches on the black paint and how the hell that happened I dont know. I guess black always shows scratches more easily.
Space is nice. The gearshift took getting used to but I'm pretty happy with it.
kind regards,
Matt

Hi,
I am seriously thinking about getting a Mazda 2 TS2, but am a little concerned after reading the item from Matt about fuel consumption !!!
It bears no relationship to the consumption claimed in the catalogue. My present Corolla is more econimical than that, which is one reason why I am thinking of the Mazda. I know that new engines burn more fuel until they are run in, but that seems excessive to me.
Has anyone else had the same experience.

Update:
The report from the garage was that there was nothing wrong with it. I did receive some crappy service from a woman who just didn't seem to believe me and quoting the official numbers and saying "it will get better in the summer". Then this guy Paul gave me a call back saying the car was ready, and he was nice, but supposedly nothing wrong with the car - everything according to spec (or so they say).
I just got a funny feeling about this, 35mpg is just utter shite.

They did offer to take the car off my hands for a week and try it themselves, but I wasn't too keen on that. I'm going to give it another 1000 miles and if it doesn't start dropping I'll be pissed off.

I did some serios urban driving this weekend (30-40 miles) but it has been extremely windy driving to work as well last couple of weeks - filled it up yesterday and now it is down to 33.8 which is even worse, great Sigh.

Will do.
note: The link from the first page to this forum doesnt actually work.
It points to forums.php or something, when it should be "forums" only, or something like that.

UPDATE:
Flipping feck. Filled her up again yesterday (mmm).
Down to 32.3 miles per gallon now. I has been very cold during February though, but damn, this consumption is just the worst ever.
I almost miss my punto now. It always gave me 37.
Gah.

Hi
I have just worked out for the first time what my 2 mpg is, i have a TS2 and its doing 42.8 mpg average, that's split between one long trip Sunday 105 miles of A roads, and 5 days of work and back approx 15 mils a day, i am relay pleased with this as my grande punto diesel was only averaging 44 mpg on the same sort of journeys and it went back to the dealer to be checked as i was sure something was wrong with it, but nothing was found wrong, i am saving money now as petrol is cheaper.

Hi, I've found my 2 sport gives an average of just under 37mpg,(4 fills to brim) not bad as a lot of my journeys are short, 2-5 miles often in traffic with the odd longer run on a roads. I leave the auto climate on all the time so i'm not complaining. The readout is generally 1-2mpg more optimistic. Leaving the trip set to show current consumption helps keep the right foot light.

The mpg are very hit and miss at the moment from what people have actually experienced i know that its hard to achieve what the manufacturers are quoting but it should be there or there abouts. Would be interesting to see what members actually get. Not too sure why they seem to be so off- maybe the engine needs "running in" ?

However he did mess up with my purchase as he forgot to run a credit check. The big boss stepped in and sorted it though.
