One of my favourite cars was a Fiat Cinquecento Sporting.

I had a seicento sporting for a bit as a budget run around. Great fun little car. I loved just basically flooring it everywhere (and still being behind everyone)! Very flimsy by modern standards. Have you seen what happens if you crash one?....

Hi Wades,
To think the Cinq was even less substantial. In spite of Fiat's claim of strengthened passenger cell.
Thankfully we survived to tell the tales!

If I remember correctly they started out a 1 and then were reduced to a half! No match for the 2's 5 star rating!

Edit-Just checked and i remembered wrong. it started out a 2 star and was reduced to 1. Still pretty poor!

Even a 3 star car doesn't offer good protection ....

Of course the biggest problem with these test is that how often are you planning on running into a concrete block at 40mph exactly!?!?!?

Handling, brakes and of course the driver will have just a big an affect on the outcome of an accident than just the physical strength of the car.

The other problem is a five star car of one class will be vasty different to a 5 star car (or less) of a bigger class of vehicle. In a head on bigger probably still means better.

Anyway to keep this on topic i'd just like to say that I think a head on crash at 40mph would be very bad for the fuel economy of Mazda2 TS2 1.3 petrol...

Just worked out my MPG after my first fill up....

173 miles covered; 134 of which I had 2 adult passengers with the air-con running constantly on mostly 40-50mph A-roads.

23 litres of unleaded to refill = 34.2mpg (23 litres = 5.0593 Imperial gallons)

EDIT:

Pah.....

Was tired last night and couldn't add up. What I'm doing is recalling the journeys I made over a 2 day period, using google maps to find the distance, and then adding them up.    Wink

So a quick recalc of miles gives 253, and 23 litres to refil = 50mpg

Quite impressive given the load carried and use of air-con.

Two more fuel consumptions - we've been travelling a fair bit lately as my mother-in-law hasn't been well.

Filled up Friday half way up the A41 on our way towards the Wirral (miles= 276 / litres = 27.8 ) = 45 mpg

Filled up yesterday on way back from a trip up to the Wirral again (miles = 280 / 27.4 litres) = 46.5 mpg

Pretty impressive considering we were using the air-con most of the time.

Sorry to bore you all....

336 miles covered, 32.7 litres (7.193 gallons) to fill up = 46.7 mpg.

Seems fairly consistent. Grin
