Hi
Thought i would  tell you all about a problem i have had with my 2, for months now i have had a rattel or a better description would be a light knocking coming from the rear of the car,it would happen a lot when driving over little bumps, but not at all when you hit a big bump, over the last 3 months i have tried lots of things to find out what it might be, at one point i took everything and i mean EVERYTHING out of the boot even the rear parcel shelf, had a drive around and still the the noise was there, went out for a drive one day and got the wife to drive so i could sit in the back and listen for the noise, it was coming from the rear of the car so i put the rear seat down and stuck my head in the boot, the noise was there but it seamed to be from the outside,so one day i got under the rear of the car and had a look to see what it might be, could not tell what might be making this knocking so all i did was checked to make sure every thing was tight, but the noise was still there no diffrent.

Over the next week or so i gave it more thought and was going to book it in with the dealer to look at, then on Saturday one thing popted in to my head that it might be, and WHORAY it worked and the noise has gone at long last, the problem was the rear hatch was not shutting tight, it was springing on the rubber seal, i adjusted the catch hook so it latches closed tighter and no more knocking.

Mine had a rattle on the latch for the rear seat. A bit of Gaffer tape around the latch loop stopped that one.

Check the heat sheild around the rear exhaust pipe. Look under the back of the car and you should see a silver sheet hanging down alongside the silencer. This sheild came loose on mine and a visit to the dealer telling them this ws the problem sorted it. Make sure the exhaust is not hot when you look!

There are a few modifications for rattles on Mazda 2. You main dealer will have all the details.
Common ones are, the rear tail gate catch, front windscreen scuttle and seats and seat belts.

Speak to your dealer, mine were very helpfull and went through all the possibilities with me, we both decided on the one we thought it was and after a short time in the garage it was gone, result!

"Clonking" sound from rear hatch area has been driving me mad for months. Dealership have adjusted the lock catch some 6 months ago but problem remains. Does anyone know which part of the mechanism is adjustable, the part with 3 bolts [hatch lid], or the the part in the body frame housing? And how is adjustment achieved. Thanks to anyone who can help!! Sad

I had a very subtle 'clonking' noise from the rear. Turned out to be the rear seat latch and as per Pocket Rocket, a bit of tape around the latch and it appears to be sorted (keeps finger crossed).
