Mazda 2 sport clutch advice/opinions - please

Hi,
Just got my New 2 Sport its an X demo 6 months old with 2000 miles on the clock. I'm finding the clutch very fierce and gear box a touch jerky when going into 1st, 2nd and even 3rd gears. Has any one else had this and is there any thing that cam be done to sort it? Also only getting about 30mpg and that was mostly motorway and not pushing it

I've only had my sport for 80 miles and no problems as of yet.  When you say fierce clutch . . .what exactly do you mean?

The clutch pedal seems to be very stiff  and be a long way from the floor hence I seemed to find it hard to judge the point at which it bites although I am startin to get the hang of it lol .. I think maybe its just a question of  me getting used to a different car , but I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed it? Also I find the brakes spongy/soft in comparrison to my old car!! Is that because of the drums or am I just unlucky?? .

my other car is 16 years old - so the 2 has the lightest clutch ever in comparison!

That said I have been driving new cars as company ones for the last few years - and the 2s clutch is either lighter or around the same as any I've had.

Brakes on mine aren't spongy either - out of interest what car are you comparing this to?

05 Ford Fiesta 1.25 LX which I've had from new, the brakes are brilliant the same now as 30,000 miles ago and light clutch and easy gearbox.. But the steering and the rest of the car not a patch on the Mazda2 But I would like to know if the comments Ive made about the 2 is just how it is or if anything needs adjusting or if things will improve with more miles.

never driven a fiesta (well not for about 10 years anyway) so can't compare.

If you feel the clutch peddle is very stiff - I would take it back to the dealers to check it out, my girlfriend who is used to fiestas thinks there is no real difference, though she does find it harder to find the biting point from her normal car (as to most people when they swap between them).

Gears are stiffer than other smaller cars (which I like!) has a shorter throw than most other small cars I've driven as well.

As for MPG - mine is alledgedly averaging 34.5 on a combined stop start commute - not done a long distance in it yet (only done 117 miles so far!)

Take it back to the dealers if you are concerned it isn't right - it'll still nbe under warranty, better to sort any problems out early than wait for a big bill later.

I have a Mazda 2TS and I exoerienced clutch judder while reversing on an incline, (not every time) spoke to my dealer and they comfirmed the judder. Mazda rep from Japan came down and confirmed it was on all the Mazda2's at the dealers. using more revs is the answer to the problem as this model is so light.
