I'm really disappointed by Mazda Motor Europe of the Mazda2 model 2009. Why? Because new model has all "features" I am missing in my car. I saw 2009 model in Austria. What are the "features"?
1) silver/aluminium interior door handles (as in Mazda6 or Mazda3 etc.)
2) silver/aluminium A/C controls (as in Mazda6)
3) textile doortrim
4) dashboard in Black-out style
5) new headlights (as spoken in many threads here)
6) new gearknob
7) silver/aluminium wheel around the gearknob
Cool aluminium handbreak button

Just look on pictures below... Why so many changes after one and half year of production? I'm sad, very sad...need to pay for my little 2 for 5 years yet, than I can buy a new one  Cry

I agree with you  majki it does seem rather soon to have such a large face lift, but I suppose times are hard for the manufacturers and they want to ensure the Mazda 2 sales stay strong!
I was lucky as my dealer told me that a face lifted version was due although he had plenty of stock and suggested I waited for 3 weeks and he would order me the new model as soon as he could. I guess it pays to get on with your dealer as I have had 4 cars off them since 2006.
Perhaps when its time for you to change again a new and better model will be available?

Ive got a face lift model 09 sport. Mine does not have the blackout dials on it it as all the other bits shown in the pics. Maybe the blackout dials are for left hand drive only.

You can't be serious? All this new changes? And I thought that I'd own a car that is new and doesn't have a newer model with so many changes:(

These changes is for cars build in 2009, so to get them to the Europe can take about 1 month and to the dealer about 3 weeks, it's a question, who bought car in 2009, but when it was build? You can bought it in 2009 but have 2008 model, you know?
I realised, that the Black-out dials are here only in the highest model named GT. But others are in all (except A/C controls because if you have manual A/C you have another controls style...)

So, newly I was assured that indoor handles, front lamps, shift gear knob and textile door trim should be bought as a spare-part. Maybe the Black-out dials too (it take some time to find out it because the dealer doesn't it know too).

Hello majki,

Just checked the UK brochure for the face lifted 2 and the following are only fitted in the Sport (I think your GT) but spec's vary country by country.
*DSC and TCS
*Front and rear electric windows
*Front climate A/C
*195/45 R16 tyre on 16 inch rims
*Front rain sensing wipers and dusk sensing headlights
*Fog lights
*Sports styling kit
*Gear knob aluminium, leather wrapped
*Aux jack socket and 6 speakers
*Blackout finish dials
*Trip computer, speed alarm and outside temp gauge
Not sure if this helps you but thought I'd send it anyway.

Regards, google 09

Well Ive got all the new parts apart from the blackout dials. I cant say this is a real loss not having the dials I dont much like them anyway. Also all 2 models are bult in a factory in Valencia. It based on the Fiesta so it uses a lot of internal comps which the fiesta has.

WHAT?Huh? In VALENCIA?Huh? Where you get this misinformation? This generation of Mazda2 is built again back in JAPAN!!!! Not in Valencia, Mazda didn't want to build Mazda2 in Valencia because Mazda was not satisfied with quality of work in Valencia.

The only common think with Fiesta is the car chassis, for Fiesta modificated from Mazda2. Fiesta is first new Ford's global car, it is built in Valencia, and will be built in Mexico too for South and North American markets in nonchanged resemblance. Mazda2 for all world's markets is build in Ujina Plant No.2 in Hiroshima, Japan, only for China market is Mazda2 (little bit changed for "special China car-market") built in Changan Ford Mazda Nanjing plant in China.

Re the Mazda 2 country of origin.
It is my understanding that all new shape Mazda 2 vehicles are built in Japan and always have been, but do use components manufactured by Ford who still at the moment have a stake in Mazda.
The old style Mazda 2 however was built in Valencia, Spain as other members have stated.

What components? In this generation petrol (benzin) engines are different from Fiesta's, maybe only 1.4 and 1.6 MZR-CD made by PSA concern are the same as TDCi in Fiesta, but that's all.  Now there is no reason to have the same components for these cars (fiesta/m2) but car chassis only, it's not the same as Ka/F500.

Hello majki,
Not sure what components, but would think there are quite a few we can't see. However, as a starter the rear brake assemblies are Ford as they have the Ford logo cast into the drum. Would also think the floor pan and suspension components are also shared. In my experience when a car is jointly developed the only things that are not shared are the within the cabin (trim Items) and body exterior body shape (panels) that make the car manufacturer individual. That's my take on the subject for what its worth! Undecided
