Hi, thanks guys, we will certainly press for them to be replaced. I think it is probably due to not enough paint and laquer on the edges that's caused salt to penetrate to the actually alloy...

Hi, ok the dealership has taken photos to pass on to Mazda for them to decided on. I'm not particularly impressed with that as it is quite obvious that the wheels have corroded under the paint. However it is my partners car and she wants to wait on their decision.

Corrosion is starting to appear on my alloys now.

It's due a service in a couple of months so will get them to check it out when it goes in.

I'll try and post some pictures later.

We have just had two wheels replaced on both of our TS2s - on both cars it was the wheels that had spent the most time on the front.  The corrossion was very noticeable on one car but minimal on the other, though neither as bad as cuke2u in Feb 10.  The dealer took pictures and sent them to Mazda and the replacements were authorised within 2 days.

At nearly 2½ years old it was probably the best time to get them done under warranty, so we have no complaints with Mazda over this issue - though having to replace the front tyres (on both cars) at 15000 miles wasn't great!

EDIT - just to clarify things, I didn't have to buy new tyres for the new wheels.  The tyres would have needed replacing within another 1-2000 miles as I wouldn't want to go into autumn/winter with less thatn 3mm tread on them.  I guess I may have squeezed 18000 miles from them, but that isn't great compared to previous cars.

Just noticed my front ones today are corroding and have been given the same talk by the dealer, take it in to have photos taken but will only be replaced if it quite bad apparently. I am not impressed with the fact that the car is just over a year old and I also have this clutch click problem still.Mazdas warranty is not what it used to be!

The amount of corrosion on my wife's wheels was bad, but I was surprised that mine were authorised for replacement as it was minimal.  The dealer said the only refusal they have had from Mazda was for wheels that had also been badly kerbed.

As I posted above, getting the wheels replaced when we have was good timing for our cars.  Another thing to watch out for is the release button on the boot, it had perished on both of our cars at under 2 years old and I have seen other 08 reg cars with the same fault (and left a note for the owner in one case).  Interesting that yours has the pedal click at a year old as it has seemed to be most common 08 and 58 cars.

We have been disappointed with the amount of time our cars have been off the road, about 10 days for each car in 2½ years.  However apart from the clutch pedal click we have had no problems at all getting any of the work done under warranty.

Update on my alloys.

Local dealer took pictures of all 4 alloys during the last service and Mazda UK have agreed to replace all 4 alloys!  Grin

The front 2 were really bad, but the rears were starting to go and were showing signs of worming - where the corrosion creates small channels that zig-zag under the lacquer creating a worming effect.

New wheels are on order. \o/

Smthers, is there any chance you could upload a photo of your corroded wheels as my car is appraoching its 1st birthday and its wheels are starting to get rusty around the locking wheel nuts, brakes (Its' not brake dust) and on the axel I believe?. Now, im no car expert and I am unsure whether its normal? hence would like to see a photo to compare Smiley.

Thanks Smiley

My Mazda2 is nearly 3 years old now and the front alloys have been showing early signs of corrosion after 18 months. I mentioned this to 2 Mazda garages when I had it serviced. The alloys have to be photographed and sent to Mazda. If the corrosion doesn't look bad in a photo then it is unlikely Mazda will authorise their replacement.

Is yours still under warranty? The same thing happened on my parents' M6 and Mazda gave them a brand new set of wheels because they were still under warranty. The corrosion wasn't even that bad, so fingers crossed for you  Smiley

Sorry about the delay in getting these pictures uploaded, but we've just moved house and that has kept me from posting on here. We still haven't got proper internet yet and I'm having to use USB tethering on my phone.

Anyway the pictures.....

The first shows the worming on the rear alloys:

And the heavy blistering on the front alloys:

I have just had 4 alloys replaced under warranty also. It seems as though Mazda UK are aware of the issue and are acknowledging it. Feel sorry for those who don't realise though.

We noted bad corrosion on our front two alloys, sadly this was 4 months after warranty had expired.
Mazda first rejected a claim, but In short Mazda are now going to be paying 75% of the cost.
Cant complain about that, although did complain why was this not picked up by our full mazda service history, hence they changed their response.

So in short, if you are out with warranty, take it back, ask re a goodwill commitment, and then challenge any rejection if you not happy with their response.
