My Mazda 2's exhaust sound is very noticeable too, but i think it's just a charateristic of the car to be honest.

How long have you had it and how many miles have you done?

Like I say the car seems to perform well but I just turned it on now and when I first start the car is very noticable that the exhaust is making a noise but then after about a minute it fades out a little.....odd :

3 weeks, 1250 miles.

Take it to the dealer if it's bothering you.
