Hey guys! I got myself a new Mazda TS2 l.3 3dr on Friday. I park the car in my drive near with the back near the wall, when I turned on the engine my exhaust sounded a bit odd to me? only way I can describe it would be it sounds like there is a hole on it?! Its brand new and I can see any problems when I look at the exhaust and when I am driving the car I can hear nothing to make me concerned it just seems like when im reversing, in first gear or not moving that I can hear the exhaust sounding tinny. I have come from driving a 1999 fiat punto for 4 years to this new car and my mechanical knowledge is not the best so any advise would be great. I think my main concern is that im driving from Manchester to the south of England on Wednesday and don't want any problems along the way Thanks

Welcome Law,
The tinny soundcould possibly be where the exhaust is new and hasn't coked up yet. I've heard of people with this issue on new car before. How many miles have you done so far?
Other possiblilities could be a head sheild or something similar vibrating against it at low revs which could make a sound like the one you're describing or it could be that there is a fault in one of the silencers.

Thanks for the reply I have done 102 miles up to now. I dont think its anything serious to worry about but I just like to make sure, I need my car for this huge trip on Wednesday, I guess I should give the Mazda garage I bought the car from a call

My Mazda 2's exhaust sound is very noticeable too, but i think it's just a charateristic of the car to be honest.

How long have you had it and how many miles have you done? Like I say the car seems to perform well but I just turned it on now and when I first start the car is very noticable that the exhaust is making a noise but then after about a minute it fades out a little.....odd :

Well I start the car up and its really noticeable then if I leave the car sitting for a minute it will decrease, but it does always do this when im reversing or setting off in first gear, just sounds really tacky and like I have a hole in it

It could just be where it's cold. if its been fitted to tight or slightly off then i suppose you would get vibration and noice until it warms up.

I certainly can't see it being a big enough probklem that you wouldn't make it but do pop it back to your dealer when you get the chance. That's the point of having a warranty!

Normally a good test for exhaust rattles is to leave the car engine idling and for a few seconds hold a cloth in your hand over the end of the tail pipe, this usually encourages any rattles to appear as well as high lighting exhaust system leaks
