This 'capri' will never happen but I do think good on ford for not doing something that just another 'warmed over' modernisation of the classic shape.

Correct me if im wrong but wasn't the mid 90's Probe supposed to be the 'new' capri?

Well yes it has a three rotary engine of 1962cc and develops 450hp!! And it runs on ethanol! It raced in some american series I think! It's a concept that actually works Wink
Indeed too much noise, too much power! and lots of flames Cheesy

Hi, and hardly any engine braking, which is also a trait of a rotary engine, fast in a straight line and scary into the bendy bits.

Wades: I think you're correct there and there was also the cougar as well...

Interesting lol, hubby has been looking at an 06 plate RX-8 for a really great price but the mpg and road tax (£405 a year) are a bit off putting. But then again those are probably the reasons it is available at such a great price. You don't buy an RX-8 for fuel economy after all though, it's all about the thrill of driving it (and the envious stares of those watching you drive it Wink ).

What a travesty - that looks absolutely nothing like the old Capri that I remember. I have really fond memories of my grandfathers Capri - shame on Ford. Sad

Hi, I'm suprised you would expect it to look the same, seeing as we only have some kind of artist impression anyway(majik). We all have fond memorys of our earlier cars, but, to honest, who'd want something like the old Capri. It wasn't that good, I remember driving the 3.5 litre version, now that was a dangerous car, wheelspin at speed, rear axle tramp all of the time when pulling away, noisy, unreliable, shiny plastic seats, vinyl roof covering that used to peel off and no-one would like to be in a accident in one.
As is the trend, we have it only in a revitalised name only, but we'll wait and see what the end product is, if it actually happens...
Chris

I appreciate what you're saying, but there's not even a hint of what went before. I certainly wasn't expecting a modern day pumped up copy of the original, but a curve / styling line here or there would have been a fitting acknowledgement of what went before. Whatever the outcome I wouldn't have bought one anyway, at least not after the last Ford I had that turned out to be one huge mechanical turd - but that's another story!

Oh my god, why are they considering bringing back the Capri name on what looks like yet another variation on the current ford styling.
When the original Capri appeared it was quite radical but practical. It drew its design brief from the american muscle cars of the time such as the Mustang etc. It was not like anything on our roads at the time, the new Capri will be. The old Capri was innovative in its styling much like the RX8 which manages four doors and four seats in what almost appears to be a two seat sports car body. Unfortunately just about everything has been done now so there is not much scope for finding a new niche. How about a mid engined four seater?
