Hi guys,

As expected when I bought this car, my inexperience in general and with petrol cars in particular has meant that I have stalled a fair few times.
I did notice it improve quickly, but I'd still get caught out at odd moments. Today however I was quite bad, hubby was with me and actually said he thinks the idle speed is too low but that this might just be a quirk of the car. When I sit with the car out of gear ticking over I sit at about 600rpm. Does anyone know if this is good bad or indifferent. Hubby has suggested getting dealership to adjust the idle speed but I don't know if they could/would/should do so.

The only other clutching at straws excuse I can find for today is hubby having the stereo on, I think I am still listening to the engine as well as feeling it.

Any ideas/opinions would be appriciated.

yep, i get the same thing, although to avoid stalling the engine i usually over compensate and over rev it!

The Idle speed increases if you put the car in gear though.

No 600rpm idle is about right mines been like that for ages. Your proberly stalling the car because your not used to the wirless tech that controls the acclerator pedel your old car was proberly cable controlled. You will get used i stalled a fair few times when i came from a cable petrol car to the 2. After a while you will be able to balence the clutch so you dont need use the brakes.

Really it just takes getting used to.

Engine rpm at idle is pre set by the ecu and may not be adjustable anyway. If my memory serves me right the idle speed on my sport was about 700/750 rpm, but having the stereo on loud will make it difficult to hear the engine rev's when you pull away. Grin

I prefer the quiet when I drive, now I have an excuse to tell hubby to turn it down when he's with me Wink

It was his fault, even when it was the cars fault it was all his fault.
