Hi,
Just dropped my mazda off for its second service.
220 odd quid? Is that not quite steep?
No idea what they'll be doing either as it is not being communicated to me either, I should of course have asked, not that it would change much.

When our's were serviced last year I asked the cost of the second service and was told £250. Mine is currently waiting for warranty work (new master cylinder) and I will check the cost when that is done.
My current opinion of the car means it is doubtful I will find out how much a third service will cost.

Well my first service at 10000km was 102GBP and my second at 20000km 113GBP! So if GB first servise is at 20000km I have already paid for oil changes at 1000km -29GBP ,5000km- 29GBP,15000km 29GBP! So summing them up you can see that mazda service is really expensive somehow for a car that needs only some filters changing and oil. Definetaley after the warranty voids I will look for 3rd party service hoping that until then I won't pay twice the porice of the car!!

Well I also just booked my second service and it is indeed £220 and yes it's a bit steep, so much that I rang the dealership and told them that and then the person on the phone had the nerve to get snotty when I asked why it was expensive so I did a bit of google and found this http://www.servicingstop.co.uk/mazda_service.htmlyour thoughts please

I saw that site and was impressed by the prices, but despite their quote of the European "block exemption" law, would still be concerned about continued warranty coverage.

We are having ours done for £225 each, we are getting a reduction for having 2 cars done at the same time.
My last car was a Corsa and the dealer lost the franchise before the first service was due (there were 3 dealers within 10 miles) but I went ahead with them doing the service. Later the car needed warranty work so I went to the next local dealer and had no problems with the work being done - I had to provide an invoice to show the service was done, but that was all. The warranty dealer knew of the place I bought the car, so that may have helped.
I am sticking with main dealer servicing until I decide how long I am keeping the car for! To add info to my post above, the current price for the 3rd service is about £160.

Main dealer services are always more expensive, but they look better in the service book and will reflect in the cars value when/if you come to resell. You have to weigh up if you want to invest the money in having a "full dealer service history" or spend a bit less and risk losing some value further down the line. If was buying a used car as long as there was some evidence of services at the correct intervals I'd be happy, but some people might look at it and want to haggle over the fact they weren't done at the main dealers.
I refuse to be held to ransom by the dealers regarding services, especially as there is a very good chance I will be handing my 2 back at the end of the lease, when I can get it serviced at work for nearly 1/2 the price.
After 12 months I had done very low mileage in mine, less than 6k I think, and Mazda wanted £120 for 1st service which is basically an oil change and checks. So I got it done cheaper at work and it has been back twice to Mazda for both rear bearings since the service and there was no issue with them being replaced under warranty. I had to phone Mazda as I received a letter from them saying a service was due and they updated the DSR with the details I gave them.
There was a very interesting article on 5Th gear a while back regarding servicing; if you break down the individual cost of items such as oil, filters etc it costs very little, as usual what you pay for is labour and mark up on these items.

Well I just rang the above company and they assured me that the service would be identical or better than the dealerships
and the electronic service record would also be done so there would be no conflict with warrenty
looks like I'm saving my self a trip to the dealership and £ 50

Yep - and the labour cost is about £100/hour! Plus the manufacturer makes sure that only the authorised dealers have the latest diagnosis kit and are the only ones capable up updating the electronic service record!

I haven't checked yet but I think when I phoned Mazda the DSR was updated. Next time I'm near the dealers I'll pop in and ask for a print-out.

I'm in the process of getting a 1.5 sport sorted out and was in the dealers today. Clear as day on the wall was a chart showing costs, mileage and times for services - £100 odd for 1/3/5yr service and £200 for the 2nd/4th years - The 6th year service is a bigger one and almost £300.
When you compare this to the cost of running other vehicles, such as an average motorcycle, £100/12 months doesn't seem bad vs £170/ 6months!
