Hello all,

My 57 M2 Sport has developed a rather annoying squeak in the 3 months I've owned it and I'm struggling to figure out where in the engine bay/drive chain its coming from.
It used to do it after a drive longer then 30 mins, now it seems to do it within 10 mins - say once its warmed up.

The squeak is an intermittent high pitched noise which is not affect by rev's or harshness of acceleration, it is a very similar sound to a stone being caught in the disc guard, but no such issue is apparent.
Under 20mph it is almost always silent and gets more persistent with speed and will even out to a continuous beat after 40mph - If you come to a stop it stops.
I'm currently thinking it may have something to do with the clutch, probably not itself but something related, as changing gear sometimes bring it in between it coming and going or just depressing the clutch can affect its pitch and volume.

It could also sound like a slipping belt, but that's ruled out by the changes in acceleration, weather and the fact it doesn't do it when standing still...
I swapped the wheels over from front to back today and had a look around to see if there was anything obvious with no results, when I took it out to see if anything had changed it still did it.

I obviously cannot locate the noise due to it only occurring when driving, but its definitely down the front!
Anyone with any ideas or experience please let me know your thoughts,

Thanks very much!

Steve

Update on this:

Today I had a new drive shaft with carrier bearing replaced under warranty as the bearing wasn't very happy making the squeaking!
Due the bearing being press fitted to the drive shaft the whole item need to be replaced.
The car also developed a drown from the rear over the last week and turned out not surprisingly to be the nearside rear wheel bearing... meaning the one fitted under the recall has now also failed! (18,000miles!) They replaced this at the same time, so all is now much quieter in my M2 Sport!
