From what i've gathered, the 2 and the fiesta share some parts yes?
Would this include the suspension? Also if i was interested in lowering the 2 then could i use lowering coilovers designed for the new fiesta if there none available at the the time for the 2?

Any feedback would be great, thanks Smiley

The entire engine, running gear and floorpan is the same as the Fiesta, so go for it!

I don't believe this to be accurate.  The engines certainly aren't shared.

I didn't realise this either, but a bit of research reveals these pages on wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Demio
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_B3_platform

I never even considered a Ford - traditionally bad starters! The new Ka is based on the Fiat 500.

Decided to have a look at the Fiesta now that I know its based on the same "chassis" as the Mazda 2. You can see the similarities. But the Ford is a lot more expensive, and stuff like auto lights, wipers, folding mirrors, climate-controlled a/c - all standard on the 1.5 Sport - are extras on the Fiesta. So a comparable car comes out considerably more expensive.

I noticed this when looking for a new car to buy. The fiesta is alot more expensive for not alot extra Tongue

I test drove the Fiesta before the Mazda.

Fiesta was highly dissapointing for me overall!

Very over-rated. Crap build quality, crap specs, tight cabin space, high driving position!

The test drove the Zetec S which was a top spec model with the 17" alloys, side skirts, bluetooth, leather, electric mirrors, parking sensors and so on. I asked the dealer how much it would cost for me to buy the same car but a different colour (was after white) and they said to me £12,595 which was the base price so this put me off buying one because the dealer gave me false infomation straight from the start!

2 weeks later I test drove the Mazda and as soon as I got in the drivers seat it put a smile on my face.

More equipment in the Mazda, nicer to drive, lighter, more economical, easier to insure, better build quality, better colour choices over the range and most of all brilliant service from Mazda dealer straight from the off no troubles at all!

Mazda 2 world car of the year 2008

Fiesta was meant to be in 2009, but got knocked off by the Vauxhall Insignia Smiley

Indeed it is matey! A bit more I think than 100kgs!

The Mazda has more equipment and still manages to be over 100kgs lighter?

Smaller magnets in the speaker ... now that's what you call fine tuning!  Grin

Mrs CMM2 is a fiesta owner at present and at the end of a 3 year deal - Looked at the new fiesta 1.4 and 1.6 Zetec S - Both nice enough cars but when you compare a £16K Zetec S to the £12K for a 1.5 Sport which comes fully loaded as standard, is there ANY real comparison?

Only gripe is cabin design which is typically Japanese - Limited options and loads of plastic. Does anyone know if the seats are shared with anything else in the same way as seat/VW seats are swapable? Would love some leather in my Sport!

So, back to my original question - do they share suspension parts?

Hi, as the Fiesta has a more refined and better handling ride I would assume they don't...

Chris

They do, and the Fiesta only gets four stars in the Autocar review, the Mazda 2 gets 4 1/2...Going by that the Mazda is the better car, despite the fact they use identical floorpan and running gear...Just as the 2003 model Mazda 2 is a better drive than the Fiesta of the same vintage. Grin

Good call - they should do a special edition luxury Sport with a leather interior.
