Steering creaking noise at parking speeds - solution.

I write this because there are 2 mazda 2's in the family, my other halfs ( a 2012 with just 11k on the clock), and my mothers, a 2010 with 21k.  Both suffer from a sort of clicking, creaking sensation through the steering wheel when it is turned at low speeds.

It was driving me mad so i researched it, surprisingly I didn't find anything about it on here but I found fragments of information all over the internet and there were various solutions ( that had varying levels of success ), including replacing the whole steering column, and replacemnet of steering racks and power assist motors.
I discussed the problem with a small garage in Gosport called Mazz-tec, he specialises in mazdas and kias.  Anyway, I discussed it with the proprietor ( an Andy Brookes ) and he knew exactly what the problem is and its solution, in his words, he'd done loads.  I took the car in and what he did was remove the steering column intermediate shaft, stripped it, repacked it with a specialist grease and refitted it, took about an hour.  He reckons the grease that Mazda used just wasn't upto the job.  The steering is all nice and quiet now.
